To round out this year’s ‘From the Archives’ series, December’s instalment finds Col. Maurice Moore of the pro-Redmond National Volunteers taking a moment after his Christmas dinner to press on with his plans to arm and equip the National Volunteers.
The Fourth Tudor and Stuart Ireland Interdisciplinary Conference took place at the Iontas Building, NUI Maynooth, from Friday, 29 August, to Saturday, 30 August, 2014. Papers on the origins of the Stuart post office, women and society, Jacobite propaganda, Plantation Ulster, and warfare offered unique glimpses into Ireland’s early modern past.
Thomas Piketty delivered the keynote address at the annual conference of TASC (Think-tank for Action on Social Change) at Croke Park, Dublin in June 2014. In association with TASC, History Hub presents an exclusive video recording of Piketty’s presentation, which was based on his acclaimed book.

This month’s ‘From the Archives’ document is an extract from the minute book of the (Irish) Belgian Refugees Committee, established in October 1914 as part of the wider British response to the flow of civilian refugees flooding out of Belgium in the weeks after the country became the epicentre of the twentieth century’s first global conflict.
